looks like i don't have to worry about hating my job anymore...
i was folding clothes in the laundromat with z-monster when my cell phone rang, and it was the lady who works at the temp agency that placed me at apple computer telling me that my services are no longer needed. buh-blam, just like that, i have no job, plus they won't even let me clean out my desk myself because of "security reasons," so i have to go by the temp agency and pick up my shit and my last check tomorrow.
double-u tee eff?
the first thing that went through my mind was, "oh snap, they must've read my livejournal bitching about how much i hate that fucking job and how i am planning quitting very shortly to tour," but the temp agency lady assured me this was part of a "reduction of workforce layoff" instituted by apple higher-ups outside of austin. i don't know why i find it surprising that a business demands a two-week notice when a person quits yet gives absolutely no notice before telling a person they are no longer needed. it's so fucked, but it's the way things work for temps. c'est la vie.
so, suddenly, i have all kinds of free time with which to plan my fall tour... the only thing i need to worry about is stuff like, oh, rent and food, but, besides that, it's all good in the hood. i hated that fucking job, and the temp lady sounded kinda sincere when she expressed remorse at having to tell me my job was through... i very nearly believed her, although it's her job to make sure temps don't freak the fuck out when they are told they are no longer needed, so... whatever... but she seems pretty cool, and she volunteered to put in a good word for me at the temp agency for a new position elsewhere.
so... there you go...
lots of free time suddenly...
anybody hiring?
in other news, i will be on HBO's "Def Poetry" tomorrow night at 10:30 p.m. central time (11:30 p.m. everywhere else). little bit of trivia... the shirt i'm wearing? it's got a fucking apple logo on the back.
in other other news, the cover story on the entertainment section in tomorrow's Austin American Statesman will focus on the Austin Poetry Slam, so check it out... i may be quoted once or twice.
